COVID Cases in Ontario Continue to Rise

Ontario reports its highest daily COVID-19 case count in more than a month, with 642 new cases reported Thursday.

The last time it was higher was on October 9 when 654 new cases were confirmed.

Four more deaths have been attributed to the virus, bringing the death toll in Ontario to 9,920.

Health Minister Christine Elliott says that of the new cases, 397 are in people who are not fully vaccinated or have unknown vaccination status, while 245 are in fully vaccinated people.

Thursday’s surge in cases causes the seven-day moving average to rise to 532, an increase of nearly 40 percent over the past week.

On Wednesday, the province addressed the increasing cases by announcing that it was halting its plans to lift capacity limits in certain high-risk environments.

The province intended to remove a limit on the number of people allowed in nightclubs, strip clubs, sex clubs and bathrooms next Monday, November 15.

But Health Medical Director Dr. Kieran Moore said the move will be delayed at least 28 days as he monitors the COVID-19 case load.
