Health and Social Services Minister Christian Dubé announced Monday that Quebec has received 6,465 doses and more deliveries are expected in the coming weeks.

This COVID-19 drug, a monoclonal antibody, is administered by intramuscular injections in each buttock. Used in prevention, it could potentially be useful in people who have a health problem which means that they do not develop enough antibodies despite the use of vaccines, in particular people who are severely immunosuppressed.

For Minister Dubé, this drug meets a specific need of certain vulnerable clienteles. “We are committed to making it easier to access,” he said.

Evusheld will be offered free of charge to people whose health condition meets the criteria for use defined in the recommendation of the National Institute of Excellence in Health and Social Services (INESSS).

Doctors, pharmacists and specialist nurse practitioners can prescribe Evusheld, which is used to prevent a person from getting COVID-19 and not to treat it once it has it, like Paxlovid.

“The pandemic has unfortunately not said its last word, but we are better and better equipped to face it, by calling on the diversified expertise of our health professionals,” said the minister.
