MONTREAL – The second wave seems more and more to be on the way to being absorbed in Quebec.

According to data released Sunday by the Ministry of Health, 666 new cases have been reported across Quebec. Minister Christian Dubé mentioned on Twitter that it is “the best day for 5 months”. As of September 23, 687 cases have been registered.

The number of active cases now stands at 8,278. In this case, it is the best record since October 2. 282,122 cases have been identified since the start of the pandemic.

Authorities have deplored 15 new deaths, including seven in the past few hours.

On the hospital front, the situation continues to progress. Thus 14 more people left a hospital than they were admitted there, for a total of 686 hospitalizations. There were 119 people in intensive care, one less than the day before.

The island of Montreal is the only region with more than 100 new cases at 330. The Montérégie has 85 additional cases, the Laurentians 67, Lanaudière 58, Laval 56, the Capitale-Nationale 17 and the Mauricie-Center-du-Québec 14 .

Regions in the red zone have reported a clear improvement: only 10 new cases have been identified in Outaouais, eight in Estrie and five in Chaudière-Appalaches.

In the orange areas, there are five cases in
Abitibi-Témiscamingue and two in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean. The
Once again, Gaspé is not reporting any new cases.

If 24,878 samples were taken on Friday, 27,518 analyzes were carried out during the same day.

The vaccination campaign continued. Authorities report 13,020 doses of vaccine administered, for a total of 344,900.

Despite the encouraging data, Mr. Dubé urged the population to remain cautious and avoid any false sense of security. “The threat of new variants is very present, it is important not to let go,” he wrote.

The National Institute of Public Health reported on Sunday 23 confirmed cases of a variant in Quebec, including 19 on the island of Montreal alone. It also reported 329 presumptive cases.
