Saskatchewan Prime Minister Scott Moe called on residents to stop hearing “nonsense on social media” when it comes to gathering information about COVID-19.

Moe made the remarks at Thursday’s press conference to announce that the Saskatchewan Provincial Emergency Operations Center would take over the province’s emergency response to the COVID-19 situation.

Moe proceeded to recite some of the latest conspiracy theories he’s heard of.

“For example, this week I have read and heard from several people that vaccine manufacturers have paid me … well, nothing could be further from the truth.”

Moe said that while these statements are absolutely ridiculous, they would be hilarious “if the consequences weren’t so dire today.”

Moe also didn’t hold back on conspiracy theorists.

“Believing and spreading active conspiracy theories against vaccines is actually helping people die of COVID by preventing them from getting vaccinated.”

Moe clarified that the emergency order he signed wouldn’t even give him the ability to seize anyone’s cows.

The prime minister said he believes it is fair for the MLAs to tackle these kinds of theories in a unique way, but those related to medical treatments need to be addressed by those in the field.

“If people want to use a horse dewormer, for example, or a cow dewormer to treat COVID-19, I’m not sure about the science behind that. Ivermectin has been widely contested by the medical community as a way to treat humans who test positive for COVID-19.

A joint message from the College of Physicians and Surgeons (CPSS), the Saskatchewan Registered Nurses Association, the Saskatchewan College of Pharmacy Professionals, the Saskatchewan Medical Association and the Saskatchewan Pharmacy Association said they disapprove of the use of ivermectin ” for treatment or prophylaxis for COVID “.

Health Canada too shared that ivermectin is not licensed to prevent or treat COVID-19 and if used in this case, it may result in “serious health problems.”

“Health Canada has received reports of the use of veterinary ivermectin to prevent or treat COVID-19. Canadians should never consume health products intended for animals due to the potential serious health hazards they pose, ”a statement read.

The human version of ivermectin is licensed for sale in Canada, however, only for the treatment of parasitic worm infections in people.

Health Canada warned that if people use the veterinary version of ivermectin, especially in high doses, it has the potential to cause serious health problems such as vomiting, diarrhea, low blood pressure, allergic reactions, dizziness, seizures, coma and even death. .
