With the highest risk of the COVID-19 Omicron variant in Regina and surrounding areas, the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) is restricting visits to long-term care (LTC) homes to keep everyone safe.

The restriction will revert to Level 1 starting Thursday. Changes include Limit visitors to two Essential Family / Support Designates per person and allow only one visitor indoors at a time.
“Moving to Family Presence Level 1 for LTC homes in Regina and its immediate geographic service area matches the family presence restrictions currently in effect for all acute care facilities in Regina,” the SHA stated.
“The decision to restrict family presence is not taken lightly. These measures were put in place to protect you, your loved ones, and healthcare workers. The Saskatchewan Health Authority is asking the public for their support and cooperation in containing the spread of the virus. “
The SHA states that family presence limitations will be reviewed periodically and will remain in effect until it is safe to return to the previous level of family presence.

Family members and support persons who have permission must follow SHA’s guidelines for screening, personal protective equipment, and physical distancing. Rapid testing is strongly recommended before, after, and upon entering these homes.
SHA strongly urges Saskatchewan residents to follow safety protocols such as:
- Stay six feet from others and wear a mask when in public.
- Limit meetings.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
- Do not touch your eyes, nose, mouth, or mask with unwashed hands.
- Stay home if you feel unwell; seek health care services when you need help.
- Check your health regularly for any symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested.
