COVID-19: Quebec Elementary Schools Start Vaccination Clinics – Montreal | The Canadian News

School vaccination clinics got underway in Montreal on Monday.

Parents of children on the Lester B. Pearson and English Montreal school boards should have already received a letter indicating how to consent to having their child vaccinated during the school day.

Public health officials were at Verdun Elementary from 10 a.m. Monday. Any child with the consent of their parents could receive the vaccine during school hours.

Parents who preferred to be with their children were invited to come after school.

Sinclair Laird Elementary in Park-Ex launched its vaccine clinic Monday. More than 50 children received the vaccine at the end of the day on Monday.

“We respect parental choice and have not applied pressure or exaggeration of any kind,” says Sinclair Laird Principal Derrek Cauchi.

“We have been kind of done about it and we have offered this service, and this is the result.”

In-school clinics are happening all over Montreal. It is a joint effort between school boards, public health, and the regional health authority.

A father of an eight-year-old girl who gave her name as Megan says it didn’t take long between the original email and the vaccination, but he’s happy everything is ready.

“This is so much easier than having to book an appointment,” Megan says. “Also, children can do it with their classmates. I liked.”

At a press conference on Monday, Health Minister Christian Dubé said he is very satisfied with the vaccine launches. About a third of eligible children ages five to 11 have already been vaccinated or have an appointment to do so. That represents more than 200,000 children in Quebec.
