COVID-19: Peterborough Area Reports 34 Active Cases, Including Admission to ICU – Peterborough | The Canadian News

Peterborough Public Health reported five new COVID-19 cases Tuesday afternoon, including one new case in an intensive care unit.

The health unit COVID tracker The update, issued around 4:15 p.m., shows 34 active cases of COVID-19, up from 30 reported on Monday and 18 on Friday.

Other data from the regional health unit on Tuesday:

  • Sprouts: An active Saturday – declared at St. Paul Catholic Elementary School in Peterborough with five cases as of Tuesday morning (no change). Since the pandemic began, the health unit has treated 343 cases associated with 58 outbreaks.
  • Cumulative confirmed cases: 1984 since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.
  • Deceased: 24: The last death was reported on October 30.
  • Variants of cases of concern: 1,160: eight more since Monday’s update. The first variant case was reported on February 23 and the first confirmed Delta variant case was reported on June 19.
  • Resolved cases: 1926 – one more case since Monday. Resolved cases represent approximately 97% of all cases.
  • Close contacts: 128, up from 116 reported Monday. People who are close contacts must self-isolate for 14 days from the last time they had contact with a person infected with COVID-19.
  • Hospitalizations: 95 cases have required hospitalization since the pandemic began. Peterborough Regional Health Center on Friday reported three active COVID-19 admissions (most recent data released). Hospitalized cases represent approximately 4.8% of all cases; 21 of the cases required the intensive care unit, one more since Monday’s update. ICU admissions represent 1.1 percent of all health unit cases since the start of the pandemic.
  • Exposure to COVID-19: 75.1% of all cases (1,490) in the jurisdiction of the health unit are due to contact with another existing case, 20.3% (403 cases) are related to community spread, 3.9% ( 77 cases) are travel-related and 0.7% (14 cases) have yet to be determined.
  • Tests: More than 64,750 people have been tested for COVID-19, about one in three residents.
  • App: Since October 1, five charges have been filed against a total of three companies under the Ontario Reopening Act. The health unit last updated the page on October 28.

The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board reported at 10:15 am Tuesday, a new case among its schools within the jurisdiction of the health unit: Thomas A. Stewart High School in Peterborough. A case has been resolved at the city’s Prince of Wales Public School.

The school board handles another 35 cases in 10 other schools outside the jurisdiction of the health unit. The school board does not say whether the cases involve students or staff.

Peterborough Catholic District School Board Victoria Northumberland Clarington reported seven cases in two city schools within the jurisdiction of the health unit: five with the outbreak at St. Paul Catholic Elementary and two at St. Peter Secondary School. A case is resolved at the Santa Ana Catholic Elementary School in the city.

The school board handles seven other cases in four other schools outside the jurisdiction of the health unit. The school board does not indicate whether the cases involve students or staff

Trent University reported there are no active cases at its Peterborough and Durham campuses as of Tuesday afternoon. The university reports that 96 percent of students and 97 percent of employees (no change) are fully vaccinated and zero percent of students (less than three percent) and zero percent of staff are partially vaccinated.

Fleming College has not reported any cases on its Peterborough campus. The university will resume classes and in-person services in January 2022.

Upcoming vaccination clinics include:

  • November 23-26: Healthy Planet Arena on Monaghan Road in Peterborough, 9 am-3pm daily.

Reservations for children ages five to 11 to receive a COVID-19 vaccine began Tuesday. Clinics in Peterborough will begin on November 29.

All medical tests and evaluations for COVID-19 in Peterborough are now consolidated at the Peterborough Regional Health Center assessment center at 1 Dr. Hospital Appointments must be booked online.

Several Peterborough and area pharmacies offer vaccinations to eligible recipients. An appointment is required and can be done by calling the respective pharmacies or visiting the Ontario government website.
