COVID-19: Peterborough area records 4,000th case, active cases below 1,100 with 30 in hospital – Peterborough | The Canadian News

The Peterborough Public Health jurisdiction has surpassed 4,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic on Tuesday, with fewer than 1,100 active cases reported.

the health unit covid tracker The update issued at 4:05 p.m. reported 1,065 active cases, up from 1,159 active cases on Monday. Since its update Monday morning, the health unit is reporting 93 new confirmed cases of COVID-19 in its jurisdiction of Peterborough, Peterborough County, Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation.

The 93 new cases bring the accumulated cases since the pandemic was declared in March 2020 to 4,074.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Thomas Piggott noted last week that daily active cases are a “huge underestimate.”

Since the pandemic was declared, 126 cases have required hospitalization, one additional case since Monday’s update.

The Peterborough Regional Health Center on Tuesday afternoon reported 30 current hospitalized patients with COVID-19, two of them admitted to an intensive care unit. Hospitalized cases represent approximately 3.1% of all cases. Twenty-three of the cases required the intensive care unit, the first reported ICU admission since Dec. 31.

Intensive care admissions account for 0.6 percent of all health unit cases since the start of the pandemic.

  • Deceased: 33 deaths have been reported since the pandemic was declared. The most recent was over the weekend: the third death in January.
  • Resolved cases: 2976: 186 more cases since Monday’s update. Resolved cases represent approximately 73 percent of all cases.
  • Charges: From October 1, 2021, charges have been filed against a total of four businesses under the Ontario Reopening Act within the health unit’s jurisdiction.

The health unit now publishes daily updates of your vaccination data, which can be found on your covid tracker website. Of note, 306,472 doses have been administered and 80.4% of eligible residents (ages five and older) are fully vaccinated with two doses.

The health unit reports that 59,164 residents have already received a third/booster dose of a vaccine: 41.8% of the eligible population (ages five and up).

All vaccine doses administered for residents age 30 and older will be the Moderna vaccine, as there is currently a shortage of Pfizer vaccines, the health unit reported in late December.

The health unit updates its list of clinics on your website offering first, second and third doses for adults and first doses for children five to 11 years old. All appointments must be booked on Ontario Online Portal or by calling the provincial vaccine stockpile call center at 1-833-943-3900.

Several Peterborough and area pharmacies offer vaccinations to eligible recipients. Appointments are required and can be made by calling the respective pharmacies or visiting the Ontario government website.

Testing continues at the Peterborough Regional Health Center screening center at 1 Hospital Dr. More information on how to book a test can be found through the COVID-19 Screening Center on the website of the health unit.

The health unit declared two new outbreaks in collective housing facilities (no. 13 and no. 14) on Monday night. They were not identified.

There are 17 other active outbreaks (unless otherwise noted, case details are not available):

  • Collective housing facility (No. 12) at Peterborough: Declared Jan. 9,
  • Peterborough Regional Health Center: Declared on January 10 in hospitalization unit B4. There were seven active cases as of Tuesday afternoon.
  • Sherbrooke Heights Retirement Residence at Peterborough: Declared Jan. 8.
  • Collective housing facility (No. 11) at Peterborough: Declared Jan. 7.
  • Collective housing facility (No. 10) at Peterborough: Declared Jan. 7.
  • Peterborough Regional Health Center: Declared on January 7 in the neonatal intensive care unit. There were two active cases as of Tuesday afternoon.
  • Royal Gardens Retirement Residence at Peterborough: Declared Jan. 7. Home reported two cases among the staff.
  • Collective housing facility (No. 9) at Peterborough: Declared Jan. 6.
  • Collective housing facility (No. 8) at Peterborough: Declared on January 5
  • Peterborough Regional Health Center: Declared on January 2 in the A5 hospitalization unit. There were five active cases as of Tuesday afternoon.
  • Rubidge Street Retirement Home: Declared on January 2.
  • Collective housing facility (No. 6): Declared on December 29.
  • Saint Joseph at Fleming long-term care in Peterborough: declared on December 29.
  • fair haven long term care in Peterborough: Declared on December 28, the home initially reported five staff cases. As of January 5, the installation rreported 14 confirmed cases — one resident and 13 employees.
  • River View Mansion long-term care in Peterborough: declared on December 28.
  • Collective housing facility (No. 5) at Peterborough: Declared Dec. 23.
  • Extendicare Lakefield: Declared on December 22.

There have been 531 cases associated with 88 outbreaks since the pandemic was declared, 166 cases in the last 30 days.
