COVID-19: Percentage of eligible British Columbia citizens fully vaccinated close to 85 percent

The percentage of fully vaccinated people in British Columbia ages 12 and older has reached 84.4 percent.

On Monday, the British Columbia Ministry of Health reported that 7,029 first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and 19,478 second doses had been administered in the last three days, bringing provincial totals to 4,152,455 and 3,910,536, respectively. .

Assuming that those who have received their first dose also receive the second, the percentage of BC residents fully vaccinated could reach 90 percent within a few weeks.

However, there is a wide range of vaccination rates across the province: more than 90 percent of eligible people living in the cities of Vancouver and Victoria are already fully immunized, while in the northern Peace Region In British Columbia, that rate is 55 percent. The city of Surrey has a vaccination rate of 86 percent.

The immunization rate is also directly reflected in new case rates and lower hospitalizations, although fully vaccinated people are still contracting breakthrough infections.

There were 1,618 new cases of the disease reported in the past three days in British Columbia and 20 deaths (bringing the total to 2,129).

There are currently 4,966 active cases of the disease, of which 366 are being treated in the hospital, including 149 in intensive care.

By comparison, Alberta reported 1,592 cases in the past three days, with 25 deaths and 9,481 active cases.
