Covid-19 pandemic: Mexico registers 72 new deaths and 3,519 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours


The Ministry of Health reported that the official number of Covid-19 deaths amounted to 318,086 deaths, after 72 new deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours.

Two years after the first case of the coronavirus in mexicowhich was confirmed by federal authorities on February 28, the cumulative number of people who have been infected in the country is 5,506,105, after 3,519 new infections were registered in the last 24 hours.

In the daily technical report on the progress of the epidemic in Mexico, 50,710 active cases are estimated, that is, people who have presented symptoms of Covid-19 in the last 14 days.

The entities with the highest rate of active cases per 100,000 inhabitants are:

  • Mexico City
  • Colima
  • Aguascalientes
  • Tlaxcala
  • Sinaloa
  • Nayarit
  • Queretaro
  • Puebla
  • Campeche

Regarding hospital capacity for the care of patients with Covid-19, the Ministry of Health detailed that the occupation of general beds is located at 18%; while beds with fans have an occupancy rate of 12%, two percentage points less than what was reported yesterday in both cases.

Given the reduction in Covid-19 infections, Nuevo León announced this Sunday that it will lift certain restrictions, however, it was warned about the need to continue with sanitary measures such as the use of face masks, healthy distance and hand washing, due to the fact that the pandemic is not over yet.

Secretary of Health of New LionAlma Rosa Marroquín Escamilla, said this Sunday that there are conditions to open 100%, “because we are coming out of the fourth wave, but the pandemic is not over yet”, for this reason he asked the population to continue taking care of themselves, and insisted on maintaining the protocols sanitary.

Advance of vaccination against Covid-19 in Mexico

The federal government reported that at the cutoff of Saturday, February 26, 317,561 Covid-19 vaccinesto reach a total of 181 million 637,603 doses applied in Mexico since the vaccination plan began on December 24, 2020.

Of the 85 million 179,352 people inoculated nationwide, 78 million 888,689 have a complete vaccination schedule.

Regarding the application of booster doses by age groups, the federal agency explained that 9 million 122,646 doses have been applied to adults over 60 years of age and older.

In the segment of 40 to 59 years, 12 million 95,728 reinforcement doses have been applied; and for people between 30 and 39 years of age, 5,602,034 doses have been provided.
