COVID-19: Ontario Ready to Vaccinate Five to 11 Year Olds As Soon as Child Doses Arrive | The Canadian News

TORONTO – Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott says the provincial reserve system should be ready early next week for parents to schedule COVID-19 vaccination appointments for their children.

The federal government will announce on Friday that Health Canada has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine for use in the five to 11-year-old age group.

Elliott says Ontario public health units will be ready to receive COVID-19 injections into children’s arms as soon as a new supply arrives.

The province needs the new product before it can start giving injections, because the dose for younger children is significantly lower than for adults.

Elliott says he expects the vaccines to arrive days or weeks after approval from Health Canada.

Public health units have plans to begin administering vaccines, including school clinics and mass vaccination sites.
