Omicron variant

This weekend the attention of the health authorities worldwide has been maintained in the advance of the new variant of Covid-19, called Ómicron, which on Friday the World Health Organization (WHO) considered “worrisome”.

Omicron, which was first detected in South Africa, now has confirmed cases in Australia, Belgium, Botswana, Canada, Great Britain, Denmark, Germany, Hong Kong, Israel, Italy and the Netherlands.

On Saturday night, the Undersecretary of Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, published a message on his Twitter account in which he considered that the global concern about the new variant of the coronavirus is “disproportionate” and the travel restrictions and border closures that some governments have considered imposing to control the spread of this new variant are “unhelpful measures.”

Meanwhile, this Sunday the head of government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum, commented that the sanitary measures implemented at the capital’s International Airport would be strengthened (AICM) to detect possible infections of the variant Omicron. However, he reiterated that coordination with the federal government is being maintained.
