Covid-19 in Mexico: Ministry of Health reports 41 new deaths and 13,752 infections in the last 24 hours


The Ministry of Health reported this Tuesday that the number of deaths due to Covid-19 in Mexico it increased to 325,458 deaths, after 41 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

According to him Daily Technical Report Regarding the progress of the coronavirus epidemic in the country, this Tuesday, June 21, 13,752 new cases of this disease were registered, mainly attributed to the Omicron variant of Covid-19, so the accumulated number of infections is 5 million 891,589.

“As of today’s information cutoff, there are 66,113 active cases registered with an incidence rate of 50.8 per 100,000 inhabitants (from June 08 to 21, 2022),” the Ministry of Health detailed in the statement. However, the agency also reported that the estimate of active cases amounts to 69,575 cases.

It should be remembered that active cases are considered to be those who tested positive for Covid-19 and started with symptoms in the last 14 days.

Covid-19 cases on the rise, but at a slower pace

During the morning press conference at the National Palace, the Undersecretary for Prevention and Health Promotion, Hugo López-Gatell, explained that there have been nine weeks with a progressive increase in the frequency of Covid-19 infections, however, he stressed that this rebound of the epidemic in the country has been slower than that detected in the fourth wave.

“What we see is the behavior of the Omicron variantmainly with the (subvariants) BA.4 and BA.5 predominating, and what this means is that a mostly mild disease is expected in people,” said the specialist.



López-Gatell reiterated that despite the increase in infections nationwide, there has been no increase in hospitalizations due to this disease, nor in deaths.

At the cut of this June 21, the hospital availability for the care of patients with Covid-19 is 96% for general beds and 99% of fan beds for patients in serious condition.

“The Omicron variant It causes catarrhal illness, but it is less likely to cause damage to the lungs, which is what could cause a serious illness that requires hospitalization,” said the undersecretary.

The official recalled that the federal government continues with its vaccination strategy against coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and that it will soon announce the date on which the inoculation of boys and girls between five and 11 years of age begins.
