On Thursday, there were 540 people who tested positive for the virus in hospital, down 54 from last Thursday when hospitalizations hit 596, a three-month high. Out of the 540 people, 49 people were in intensive care.

According to the latest weekly report by the BC Center for Disease Control1,645 new cases of COVID were recorded across the province from May 8 to 14, bringing BC’s total up to 369,202 since the start of the pandemic.

The number of new cases is trending down — 17 per cent less than last week’s 1,985 and 28 per cent less than the 2,283 cases in late April.

However, these figures are likely an undercount of the real number of cases in the community due to limited PCR testing.

From May 8 to 14, 334 people were admitted to hospital. Another 59 people have also died of the virus, bringing the province’s death toll to 3,398. The death count includes all deaths that occur within 30 days from a positive test result, even if the virus wasn’t the main cause of death.
