According to the BC Health Ministry, there are 288 people in hospital with the disease, of which 48 are in intensive care. This is 18 more than there were in hospital last Friday, although there are now two fewer people in ICU.

The number of COVID cases in hospital peaked in BC on Feb. 1, 2022, at the crest of the Omicron wave — the fourth and biggest wave of the disease. It fell from that point to 254 cases on March 22, but has crept up since then.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry used the falling hospital rates as part of her reasoning for lifting most COVID restrictions. Case data is no longer used to assess the pandemic given limited testing.

There were six COVID deaths reported over the last three days, bringing that total to 2,989.
