There were 63 COVID-19 cases reported in BC hospital intensive-care units on Monday, as hospitalizations continue to fall.

There are now 449 people in hospital either with COVID-19 or because of the disease. This number has been falling for the past month as the impact of the pandemic on the health system diminishes.

BC reported 997 fresh cases of the disease over the past three days. However, this is based on very limited testing, with fewer than 3,300 PCR tests performed on Sunday — well below the 20,000 a day capacity.

The percentage of people testing positive is now 7.8 per cent across BC after peaking at 24.1 per cent on Jan. 4, 2022 during the peak of the Omicron wave of infection.

The number of active health-care outbreaks fell from 20 to 17. Eleven people died from the disease over the past three days, bringing that total to 2,914.

The average age of COVID-19 deaths in BC is 82 and most people who died had other health conditions.

There were 19,530 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered across the province over the past week, and there are 820,000 doses on hand. Just over 56 per cent of adults in BC have had three doses.

According to the BC Center for Disease Control’s latest situation report the average age of a person in hospital either with or because of COVID-19 is 63, and the average age of a person in intensive care with the disease is 63.

The average age of a person with COVID-19 in the province is 35.
