COVID-19: HKPR Reports 15 New Cases Over Weekend; 81.5% of residents fully vaccinated – Peterborough | The Canadian News

The Haliburton District Health Unit, Kawartha, Pine Ridge reported 15 new cases of COVID-19 over the Thanksgiving Day long weekend, according to data released Tuesday.

Eleven of the new cases were reported in Northumberland County and four new cases in the city of Kawartha Lakes, all as of Friday (no update issued Monday). The total number of active cases within the health unit’s jurisdiction rose to 18 from 11 reported on Friday.

The 18 active cases include five in Kawarthas (up to two), 13 in Northumberland County (up to six), and none in Haliburton County (one less).

  • Sprouts: None active. Since the pandemic was first declared, the health unit has dealt with 73 outbreaks: 29 of them in long-term care facilities, 12 in work settings, 11 in group settings, nine in schools, 11 in “other community settings “and one in a hospital.
  • Resolved cases: 2,385 – eight additional cases as of Friday. The resolved cases represent approximately 96.7 percent of the 2,466 accumulated cases since the beginning of the pandemic.
  • Variant cases: 938 – unchanged from Friday. There are 519 in Kawarthas, 365 in Northumberland County, and 54 in Haliburton County.
  • High risk contacts: 107, up from 55 reported on Friday. The health unit indicates that 14 of the high-risk contacts lack identification of residence, but are included in the general data.
  • COVID-19 tests: 232,039 tests have been conducted in the jurisdiction of the health unit since the pandemic began.
  • Hospitalized cases to date: 90 – unchanged from September 29. Currently there are no cases of hospitalization within the jurisdiction of the health unit. Since the pandemic began, there have been 51 hospitalized cases in the city of Kawartha Lakes, 36 in Northumberland County, and three in Haliburton County.
  • Deceased: 76 since the pandemic was declared. The latest virus-related death was reported on June 29 in the town of Kawartha Lakes. There have been 58 deaths among people who tested positive for COVID-19 in Kawarthas, 17 in Northumberland County, and one in Haliburton County.

Trillium Lakelands District School Board at 1:15 pm Tuesday afternoon reported no active cases in their schools within the jurisdiction of the health unit.

Peterborough Victoria Northumberland Clarington District School Board reported a new case within the jurisdiction of the health unit since Friday: A unique case at St. Mary’s Catholic Secondary School in Cobourg. The school remains open.

The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board reported a new case since Friday: a one-off case at Cobourg Collegiate Institute in Cobourg. The school remains open.

The health unit released its weekly vaccination data on Tuesday afternoon with the following data:

  • Single dose: 86.3 percent, compared to 85.5 percent on October 4.
  • Two doses (fully vaccinated): 81.5 percent, compared to 80.7 percent on October 4.

  • Two doses: 82.1 percent, compared to 81.4 percent on October 4.
