COVID-19: Declared Outbreak in Northumberland County; HKPR reports 78% are fully vaccinated and eligible – Peterborough | The Canadian News

The Haliburton District Health Unit, Kawartha, Pine Ridge has declared a COVID-19 outbreak in Northumberland County.

No specific case details have been provided about the outbreak, which the health unit says is related to a private party at the residence. The outbreak was declared on Saturday, but was only officially updated on the health unit’s website Monday night.

Case data is not updated on Tuesdays. As of Monday afternoon, there were 36 active cases in the health unit’s jurisdiction: 20 in Kawarthas (two more), 10 in Haliburton County (four more) and six in Northumberland County (four more).

The outbreak is the second active, joining the one declared on September 7 at the Central East Correctional Center in Lindsay. According to the provinceAs of Sunday, there were 18 active cases in the super jail, all inmates.

Since the pandemic was first declared, the health unit has dealt with 73 outbreaks: 29 of them in long-term care facilities, 12 in work settings, 11 in group settings, nine in schools, 11 in “other community settings “and one in a hospital.

All eligible residents (ages 12 and older):

  • Single dose: 83.1%
  • Two doses (fully vaccinated): 77.8 percent

Adults (over 18 years old):

  • 1 serving: 83.6 percent
  • 2 doses: 78.7 percent

To date, 142,725 residents in the jurisdiction of the health unit have received one dose of vaccine; 133,740 have received two doses (fully vaccinated).

The health unit is offering a series of mobile clinics to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. This month’s clinics include:

City of Kawartha Lakes:

  • Lindsay: Sunday, September 26, 5 pm-9pm, Lindsay Exposition (354 Angeline St. S.) The GOVAXX mobile bus will be at the clinic and vaccinations will be offered during the Lindsay Ex demolition derby.

Northumberland County:

  • Cobourg: Wednesday, September 15, 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Cobourg Community Center (750 D’Arcy St.)
  • Colborne: Sunday, September 19, 1:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. M., Victoria Square Park
  • Grafton: Saturday, September 25, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., EarlyON at Grafton Community Center (718 Station St.)

Haliburton County:

  • Harcourt: Saturday, Sept. 18, noon to 3 p.m. South Algonquin Country Store (3895 Loop Rd.).
  • Haliburton: Sunday, September 19, 1 pm to 4 pm, Abbey Gardens (1012 Garden Gate Dr.). The GOVAXX mobile bus will be at this clinic.

The schools also host vaccination clinics for all eligible residents (ages 12 and up). Schools within the Trillium Lakelands District School Board (TLDSB) will have clinics open from 11 am to 3 pm for students and staff only. And then open to all other eligible residents (ages 12 and older) from 4-7pm. M.

Schools within the Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit (KPR) and the Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board (PVNCCDSB) will have clinics from 4 pm to 7 pm for all.

No appointment is necessary and the first and second doses will be provided.

City of Kawartha Lakes:

  • September 20-21: IE Weldon Secondary School in Lindsay
  • September 22-23: Lindsay Collegiate Vocational Institute (LCVI)
  • September 24-27: St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Lindsay

Northumberland County:

  • September 14-15: Campbellford District High School
  • September 16-17: East Northumberland Secondary School
  • September 20-21: Port Hope High School
  • September 22-23: Cobourg Collegiate Institute
  • September 24-27: St. Mary Catholic High School in Cobourg

Haliburton County:

  • September 14-15: Haliburton Highlands Middle School and

The health unit has launched a new campaign to vaccinate young people (12 to 17 years old) with its #StickItToCovid contest. Any youth in the health unit jurisdiction who has a first or second shot by September 30 will be entered into a drawing to win Apple AirPods or Apple gift cards. The prize drawing is open to those youth who have already received their COVID-19 vaccines or plan to receive them now.
