In its weekly summary of recent data, the health unit said the rate of positive test results for COVID-19 has dropped almost a full percentage point to 2.7 percent. At the same time, the weekly infection rate increased slightly to about 39 cases per 100,000 people.

“No data element captures the entire epidemiological picture,” said Dr. Shanker Nesathurai, Acting Medical Health Officer. “But looking at the data in general, I think the burden of COVID-19 in the community right now is roughly the same as it was last week.”

The health unit reported an additional COVID-related death Thursday – a woman in her 60s living in the wider community.

To date, 20,608 local residents have tested positive for the virus and its variants, including 465 people who have lost their lives as a result.
