The Quebec Ministry of Health decided last week to speed up the schedule for the third dose, to help curb the increase in cases related to the highly contagious Omicron variant.

On Wednesday, January 12, people over the age of 35 will be able to book appointments for the vaccine. Two days later, on Friday, appointments will open for people over 25 years old and on Monday, January 17, all adult Quebecers will be able to make appointments.

In recent days, Quebec has seen a sharp increase in the number of hospitalizations due to COVID-19. The case count stood at 2,436 on Sunday, the highest number since the pandemic began.

The increase in cases has flooded hospitals and forced some institutions to reduce services in other areas, including surgical ones, which could put the lives of some patients at risk.
