There are 966 Albertans in hospital with the virus, a decrease of one from the previous day. Of those in hospital, 62 are in an intensive care unit, a decrease of five from the previous day.

Friday was the province’s final daily update before it switches to weekly reporting next Wednesday.

Active cases in Alberta jumped slightly on Friday with 6,583 current active cases in the province, an increase of 31 from the previous day. The Edmonton Zone, which includes the city of Edmonton and surrounding areas, is home to 1,959 active cases.

The province reported 502 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday and a test positivity rate of 17.1 per cent. The number of cases is likely much higher due to the majority of Albertans using at-home, unreported rapid test kits.

In Alberta, 90.2 per cent of people aged 12 and older have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, 86.6 per cent of the same age group are fully vaccinated and 42.3 per cent have rolled up their sleeve for a booster dose.
