COVID-19: Active Cases in Peterborough Area Stable at 18 with 1 New, 1 Resolved – Peterborough | The Canadian News

For the second day in a row, Peterborough Public Health reported only one new case of COVID-19, according to data released Thursday afternoon.

From his COVID tracker update issued around 4:10 pm, the regional health unit again reported 18 active cases, unchanged from Wednesday’s update.

Other data from the health unit, serving Peterborough, Peterborough County, Hiawatha First Nation and Curve Lake First Nation, on Thursday:

  • Cumulative confirmed cases: 1,889 since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.
  • Variants of cases of concern: 1,108: five more since Wednesday’s update. The first confirmed Delta variant case was reported on June 19 and the first variant case was reported on February 23.
  • Resolved cases: 1,848 – one more since Wednesday (1,847). Resolved cases represent approximately 97.4% of all cases.
  • Close contacts: 162, down from 132 reported Wednesday and 123 reported Tuesday. A close contact is a person who is known to have had close contact with someone who was infected with COVID-19. People who are close contacts must self-isolate for 14 days from the last time they had contact with a person infected with COVID-19.
  • Peterborough Regional Health Center: Reported no COVID-19 hospitalized patients as of Tuesday afternoon (latest data). Since the start of the pandemic, there have been at least 76 patient transfers from other areas.
  • Hospitalizations: 88 cases have required hospital care since the pandemic began, representing approximately five percent of all cases; 18 of the cases required the intensive care unit. ICU admissions constitute one percent of cases.
  • Sprouts: None active. The health unit has treated 333 cases associated with 56 outbreaks since the start of the pandemic.
  • Deceased: 23: The last death was reported on September 10.
  • Exposure to COVID-19: 75.8% of all cases (1,431) in the jurisdiction of the health unit are due to contact with another existing case, 19.9% ​​(375 cases) are related to community spread, 3.9% ( 74 cases) are travel-related and 0.5% (nine cases) have yet to be determined.
  • Tests: More than 62,350 people have been tested for COVID-19, 50 more since Wednesday’s update.
  • App: Since October 1, three charges have been filed against a company under the Ontario Reopening Act.

Peterborough Catholic District School Board Victoria Northumberland Clarington again reported four active cases at their schools within the health unit’s jurisdiction Thursday afternoon (the school board does not indicate whether the cases involve students or staff).

  • St. Anne Catholic Elementary School in Peterborough: two cases, unchanged from Wednesday. The school remains open.
  • St. Paul Catholic Elementary School in Norwood: two cases, unchanged from Wednesday. An outbreak, declared on October 8, arose on Sunday. Three cases have been resolved. The school remains open.

Trent University reported no active cases at its Peterborough and Durham campuses on Thursday afternoon. It says 93 percent of students and 96 percent of employees are fully vaccinated and four percent of students and one percent of staff are partially vaccinated.

Fleming College has not reported any cases on its Peterborough campus.
