COVID-19: Active cases from Peterborough remain at 52; outbreak rose at Rhema Christian School – Peterborough | The Canadian News

The Peterborough Department of Public Health reported four new cases of COVID-19 in its jurisdiction on Friday afternoon and declared an end to an outbreak.

The health unit COVID tracker The update, issued at 4:15 p.m., shows 52 active cases of COVID-19, unchanged from Thursday.

The health unit serves Peterborough, Peterborough County, Curve Lake First Nation and Hiawatha First Nation.

The health unit reports the following four active outbreaks on Friday:

The outbreak declared on November 27 at Rhema Christian School in Peterborough was declared over on Thursday evening. Details of the case were not released.

The health unit has had 364 cases associated with 64 outbreaks since the pandemic was declared.

Other data from the regional health unit on Friday:

  • Deceased: 25 since the pandemic was declared: the last death was a woman in her 90s, reported on December 3.
  • Cumulative confirmed cases: 2,085 since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.
  • Variants of cases of concern: 1,219: eight more cases since Thursday’s update. The health unit has not reported any case of Omicron variant. The first variant case in the region was reported on February 23; the first confirmed case of the Delta variant was reported on June 19.
  • Resolved cases: 2008: four more cases since Thursday. Resolved cases represent approximately 96.5% of all cases.
  • Close contacts: 473, down from 551 reported on Thursday and 486 on Wednesday. People who are close contacts must self-isolate for 14 days from the last time they had contact with a person infected with COVID-19.
  • Hospitalizations: 98 cases have required hospitalization since the pandemic began, unchanged from Tuesday. Peterborough Regional Health Center Thursday night reported four active COVID-19 admissions (most recent data when article was published). Hospitalized cases represent approximately 4.7% of all cases; 21 of the cases required the intensive care unit, unchanged since November 23. Admissions to the ICU represent 1.1 percent of all cases in the health unit since the start of the pandemic.
  • Exposure to COVID-19: 74.6% of all cases (1,555) in the jurisdiction of the health unit are due to contact with another existing case, 20.6% (429 cases) are related to community spread, 3.8% ( 79 cases) are travel-related and 1.2% (22 cases) have their source yet to be determined.
  • Evidence: More than 66,200 people have been tested for COVID-19, 50 more since Thursday’s update. About one in three residents has been tested for COVID-19.
  • Application: Since October 1, these charges A total of four businesses have been filed against under Ontario’s Reopening Act, including orders issued on December 1 to shut down PB’s Peterburgers restaurant on George Street North and have the facility no longer accessible.

Peterborough Catholic District Victoria Northumberland Clarington School Board at 1:45 pm on Friday reported Nine active cases in schools within the jurisdiction of the health unit (the school board does not indicate whether the cases involve students or staff. All schools remain open):

  • 6 cases: St. Catherine Catholic Primary School (-1) in Peterborough, an outbreak was declared on Wednesday.
  • 2 cases: Holy Cross Catholic Secondary (outbreak declared December 3, total cases unchanged) in Peterborough
  • 1 case: St. Paul Catholic Elementary School in Norwood (-1).

Individual cases resolved at both St. Paul Catholic Elementary School in Peterborough and Lakefield have been reported.

Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board at 11:14 am Friday reported 16 active cases among their schools within the jurisdiction of the health unit. All schools with cases remain open (the school board does not indicate whether the cases involve students or staff):

  • 7 cases: Millbrook / South Cavan Public School in Millbrook (+2; outbreak declared December 6).
  • 4 cases: Westmount Public School (no change) in Peterborough.
  • 1 case: Prince of Wales Public School, RF Downey Public School, Adam Scott Intermediate, Queen Elizabeth Public School, and Thomas A. Stewart Secondary School, all in Peterborough (all case totals have not changed since Thursday).

Trent University reported two active cases at its Peterborough campus at 4:25 pm Friday, unchanged, and none at its Durham campus. The university reports that 96 percent of students and 97 percent of employees are fully vaccinated and zero percent of students and zero percent of staff are partially vaccinated.

Fleming College has not reported any cases on its Peterborough campus. The university will resume classes and in-person services in January 2022.

School and walk-in clinics

The health unit will host a series of vaccination clinics for children at various Peterborough County schools. All clinics will be held outside of school hours. Clinics include:

  • Friday, December 10: Apsley Public School from 4 pm to 7 pm
  • Friday, December 17: St. Martin Catholic Elementary School in Ennismore from 4 pm to 7 pm
  • Monday, December 20: Millbrook / South Cavan Public School from 9 am to 3 pm
  • Wednesday, December 29: Lakefield District Public School from 9 am to 3 pm

Pre-orders are available for children ages five to 11 to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, as well as third-dose / booster vaccines. All appointments must be booked on Ontario Online Portal or by calling the provincial vaccine reservation call center at 1-833-943-3900.

All medical tests and evaluations for COVID-19 in Peterborough are now consolidated in the Peterborough Regional Health Center assessment center at 1 Dr.

Various Peterborough and area pharmacies offer vaccinations to eligible recipients. An appointment is required and can be done by calling the respective pharmacies or visiting the Ontario government website.
