COVID-19: 6 new cases for the Peterborough area, 17 active; outbreak rose at Lakefield Catholic School – Peterborough | The Canadian News

Peterborough Public Health reported six new COVID-19 cases and a completed school outbreak, according to data released Tuesday afternoon.

From his COVID tracker Update issued around 4:27 pm, the regional health unit reported 17 active cases, up from 18 reported on Monday.

Other data from the health unit, which serves Peterborough, Peterborough County, Hiawatha First Nation and Curve Lake First Nation, on Tuesday:

  • Cumulative confirmed cases: 1,887 since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.
  • Variants of cases of concern: 1,103, four more since Monday. The first confirmed Delta variant case was reported on June 19 and the first variant case was reported on February 23.
  • Resolved cases: 1,847 – seven additional cases since Monday (1,840). Resolved cases represent approximately 97.4% of all cases.
  • Close contacts: 123, down from 138 reported Monday. A close contact is a person who is known to have had close contact with someone who was infected with COVID-19. People who are close contacts must self-isolate for 14 days from the last time they had contact with a person infected with COVID-19.
  • Peterborough Regional Health Center: Reported there are no patients hospitalized for COVID-19 as of Tuesday afternoon. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been at least 76 patient transfers from other areas.
  • Hospitalizations: 88 cases have required hospital care since the pandemic began, representing approximately five percent of all cases; 18 of the cases required the intensive care unit. ICU admissions constitute one percent of cases.
  • Sprouts: None active after the outbreak was declared resolved Tuesday at St. Paul Catholic Elementary School in Lakefield. See “School Cases” below for more details. The health unit has treated 333 cases associated with 56 outbreaks since the start of the pandemic.
  • Deceased: 23: The last death was reported on September 10.
  • Exposure to COVID-19: 75.7% of all cases (1,429) in the jurisdiction of the health unit are due to contact with another existing case, 19.8% (374 cases) are related to community spread, 3.9% ( 74 cases) are travel-related and 0.5% (10 cases) have yet to be determined.
  • Tests: More than 62,200 people have been tested for COVID-19, 50 more since Monday’s update.
  • App: Since October 1, three charges have been filed against a company under the Ontario Reopening Act.

The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, at 12:12 pm Tuesday, reported two active cases between your schools within the jurisdiction of the health unit (the school board does not indicate whether the cases involve students or staff):

  • Lakefield District Public School: One Case, School Remains Open
  • Norwood District Middle School in Norwood: One Case, School Remains Open

Peterborough Catholic District School Board Victoria Northumberland Clarington reported three active cases at their schools within the health unit’s jurisdiction Tuesday afternoon (the school board does not say whether the cases involve students or staff).

All six cases at St. Paul Catholic Elementary School in Lakefield are resolved and the outbreak, which was declared Oct. 6, has been lifted at the kindergarten through eighth-grade school that remains open.

  • Immaculate Conception Catholic Elementary School in Peterborough: An active case, unchanged from Thursday. The school remains open.
  • St. Paul Catholic Elementary School in Norwood: two active cases. Outbreak, declared on October 8, lifted on Sunday by the health unit. Three cases have been resolved. The school remains open.

Trent University reported an active case on his Peterborough campus on Tuesday afternoon. The university also reported that 93 percent of students, up one percent, and 96 percent of employees (no change) are fully vaccinated. Another four percent of the students and one percent of the staff are partially vaccinated, both of which changed.

Fleming College has not reported any cases on its Peterborough campus.

Several Peterborough and area pharmacies offer vaccinations to eligible recipients. An appointment is required and can be done by calling the respective pharmacies or visiting the Ontario government website.
