COVID-19: 4 new cases for the Peterborough area; Outbreak declared on the school bus route – Peterborough | The Canadian News

Peterborough Public Health reported four new COVID-19 cases and a new outbreak on a bus route in the city, according to data released Thursday night.

The health unit COVID tracker The update, issued around 5 p.m., again shows 42 active COVID-19 cases, compared to 45 cases reported over the previous two days in the jurisdiction of Peterborough Health Unit, Peterborough County, Hiawatha First. Nation and Curve Lake First Nation.

  • Sprouts: Three Assets: An outbreak was declared on Student Transportation of Canada’s 627 bus route in Peterborough on Thursday (details not immediately available). An outbreak was declared Wednesday at Holy Cross Catholic High School in Peterborough with two cases (one initial case was reported on Monday). An outbreak declared last Thursday at Rhema Christian School (a private school) in Peterborough remains active. The health unit has had 357 cases associated with 62 outbreaks since the pandemic was declared, an additional four cases since Wednesday’s update.
  • Cumulative confirmed cases: 2,036 since the pandemic was declared in March 2020.
  • Deceased: 24: The last death was reported on October 30.
  • Variants of cases of concern: 1,175 – two more since Wednesday. The first variant case was reported on February 23 and the first confirmed Delta variant case was reported on June 19.
  • Resolved cases: 1970 – 13 more cases since Wednesday. Resolved cases represent approximately 96.5% of all cases.
  • Close contacts: 334 – from 304 on Wednesday and 237 on Tuesday and 179 on Monday. People who are close contacts must self-isolate for 14 days from the last time they had contact with a person infected with COVID-19.
  • Hospitalizations: 97 cases have required hospitalization since the pandemic began, one more since Monday. Peterborough Regional Health Center Tuesday reported four active COVID-19 admissions – one case less than Monday (most recent data). Hospitalized cases represent approximately 4.8% of all cases; 21 of the cases required the intensive care unit, unchanged since November 23. Admissions to the ICU represent 1.1 percent of all cases in the health unit since the start of the pandemic.
  • Exposure to COVID-19: 74.9% of all cases (1525) in the jurisdiction of the health unit are due to contact with another existing case, 20.5% (417 cases) are related to community spread, 3.8% ( 78 cases) are related to travel and 0.8% (16 cases) have their source yet to be determined.
  • Tests: More than 65,500 people have been tested for COVID-19, about one in three residents. That’s an additional 100 since Wednesday’s update.
  • App: Since October 1, eight charges have been filed against a total of four companies under the Ontario Reopening Act. Late Friday night, the White House restaurant / nightclub at 175 Charlotte St. received a Closure / Section 22 order requiring the establishment’s “immediate closure”. On November 21, the company was fined $ 880 for exceeding the 25 percent capacity limit. On Thursday, the health unit issued a Section 22 warrant against PB’s Peterburgers restaurant on George Street North to comply with regulations or close business for not following Ontario’s COVID-19 protocols.

Pre-orders are available for children ages five to 11 to receive a COVID-19 vaccine, as well as a third booster shot. All appointments must be booked on Ontario Online Portal or by calling the provincial vaccine reservation call center at 1-833-943-3900.

The health unit will host a series of vaccination clinics for children at various Peterborough County schools. All clinics will be held outside of school hours. Clinics include:

  • Friday, December 3: Norwood District High School from 4 pm to 7 pm
  • Friday, December 10: Apsley Public School from 4 pm to 7 pm
  • Friday, December 17: St. Martin Catholic Elementary School in Ennismore from 4 pm to 7 pm
  • Monday, December 20: Millbrook / South Cavan Public School from 9 am to 3 pm
  • Wednesday, December 29: Lakefield District Public School from 9 am to 3 pm

Peterborough Catholic District Victoria Northumberland Clarington School Board at 4:30 pm Thursday reported Eight active cases in schools within the jurisdiction of the health unit: In Peterborough, there are two cases at Holy Cross Catholic High School (outbreak) and St. Catherine Catholic Elementary School and single cases at St. Peter and St. Paul Catholic School Elementary schools in Peterborough, Norwood and Lakefield. The school board does not say whether the cases involve students or staff. All schools remain open.

Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board at 11:25 am Thursday reported five active cases among their schools within the jurisdiction of the health unit: one new case at Queen Elizabeth Public School along with a single case at Adam Scott Middle School (no change) and three cases at RF Downey Public School ( one more case from Wednesday), all in Peterborough schools remain open. The school board handles 23 other cases in 11 other schools outside the jurisdiction of the health unit. The school board does not say whether the cases involve students or staff.

Trent University reported there are no active cases at its Peterborough and Durham campuses as of Thursday afternoon. The university reports that 96 percent of students and 97 percent of employees are fully vaccinated and zero percent of students and zero percent of staff are partially vaccinated.

Fleming College has not reported any cases on its Peterborough campus. The university will resume classes and in-person services in January 2022.

All medical tests and evaluations for COVID-19 in Peterborough are now consolidated in the Peterborough Regional Health Center assessment center at 1 Dr.

Various Peterborough and area pharmacies offer vaccinations to eligible recipients. An appointment is required and can be done by calling the respective pharmacies or visiting the Ontario government website.
