COVID-19: 2 deaths, 918 new cases reported in Saskatchewan since December 24 | The Canadian News

Since the last provincial update on December 24, the Saskatchewan Health Authority is reporting 918 new COVID-19 cases and two new deaths from its five-day hiatus in reporting.

There are currently 1,428 active cases of COVID-19 throughout the province.

However, the actual number of infections could be higher as rapid test kits are also used at home. This could mean that some cases are not being reported.

During the holidays, Saskatchewan residents continued to apply COVID-19 as vaccination and booster rates increased and hospitalization numbers decreased.

Hospitalizations were reduced by seven, now by 80 people, including 64 hospitalizations and 16 in the ICU.

Since the Omicron variant first emerged, the SHA has reported that a total of 824 cases tested positive for Omicron throughout the province, but no individuals hospitalized with the highly communicable variant have been reported.

To date, 83 percent of residents ages five and older have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. Seventy-six percent of residents five years and older are fully vaccinated, including 277,705 booster doses or third doses.

A total of 1,795,682 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered and 854,685 people are now considered to be fully vaccinated.

Since the start of the pandemic, the province has registered 83,558 infections, 81,183 recoveries and 947 deaths.
