COVID-19: 13 more cases, 1 additional death confirmed in Simcoe Muskoka – Barrie | The Canadian News

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit confirmed 13 additional COVID-19 cases and one more death in the region on Friday, bringing the local total number to 13,872, including 263 deaths.

Local public health also reported six new variant COVID-19 cases on Friday, bringing that total to 6,336, including 96 cases that are active.

Eight of the new cases are in Barrie, while two are in Springwater, one in Bradford, one in Huntsville and one in Ramara.

Three are the result of close contact with another positive COVID-19 case, while two are acquired in the community, one is related to an outbreak, and the rest are under investigation.

Of the new cases, three people are fully vaccinated, none are partially vaccinated, and 10 are not immunized.

Meanwhile, 75.9 percent of the region’s population has received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 72 percent have received the two necessary doses.

Of the total 13,872 COVID-19 cases in the region, 97 percent, or 13,457, have recovered, while eight people are currently in hospital.

The province of Ontario reported 492 new cases of COVID-19 on Friday, bringing the provincial total to 596,772 infections, including 9,839 deaths.
