Couple Charged With Human Trafficking After NB Girl Rescued From NS Hotel | The Canadian News

Police in the city of Bridgewater, NS, said they charged two people with trafficking a minor after a 16-year-old girl from New Brunswick was rescued from a hotel.

In a statement, the Bridgewater Police Service said they received a 911 call from the teenager “requesting help because she didn’t know where she was” around 7:30 pm on November 9.

She said she provided dispatch staff with a description of the terrain that allowed officers to find her in the parking lot of a local hotel.

“An investigation revealed that the woman was from New Brunswick and had been sexually assaulted at a local hotel,” the statement said. “The police also determined that he had stayed with a group of adults in other hotels in the province.”

The statement says the victim was transported back to her home province of New Brunswick.

Two individuals, Bruce Nicholas Gilroy, 30, of Brookdale, NS, and Chelsey Wilson, 28, of Moncton, NB, have been charged with the following crimes:

  • Recruit a person under the age of 18 for the purpose of exploiting sexual services;
  • Receive an economic benefit resulting from committing a crime;
  • Illegal confinement;
  • Commit sexual assault;
  • Administer a harmful or destructive substance.

“During the initial investigation, the Bridgewater Police Service learned that there is a possibility that this matter is not isolated and may involve other communities, including in the province of New Brunswick,” the statement said.

“As such, the Bridgewater Police Service has requested assistance from the Nova Scotia Province Human Trafficking Unit to further this multi-jurisdictional investigation.”

The Bridgewater Police Service is asking anyone with related information to contact them at 902-543-2464.

Nova Scotia, one of the smallest provinces in Canada, has the the highest rates of human trafficking reported in the country, according to Statistics Canada.
