In a tweet posted shortly after 8 pm, police said the man was arrested “for driving in a manner that is dangerous to public safety.” Police urged those involved in the protest on Huron Church Road “not to endanger members of the public or engage in illegal activities.”

Police did not specify whether the arrested man was participating in the anti-mandate protest.

Nearly two hours later, police said the east- and westbound lanes of Tecumseh Road West at Huron Church were closed due to the demonstration. The roadway reopened in both directions before 1 am

At around 8:30 am Thursday, police on Twitter asked people to stop calling 911 for information about wait times at the Ambassador Bridge or how they should proceed with plans to cross the border. Truckers should use the Blue Water Bridge in Sarnia, police said, and commuter traffic should use the tunnel.

“Although the Ambassador Bridge is not closed US-bound, the presence of demonstrators are making it difficult to access the bridge,” police tweeted. “We urge all motorists to avoid both access points to the bridge. All those attempting to cross the Ambassador Bridge should expect significant delays.”
