Cooperation in the G20 will continue: Sri Mulyani

Global cooperation in the Group of 20 (G-20) must continue and all members agree to keep collaboration open to face the challenges that are arising, said the Indonesian Minister of Economy Sri Mulyani Indrawati, in his quality of president of the G-20.

The members of the G-20 expressed their deep concern about the humanitarian crisis in which Ukraine finds itself in the face of the war led by Russia, as well as the global, economic and financial impact of this warlike event, the official assured.

He stressed that they made a call to end the war, as soon as possible.

“Many members condemned the unjustifiable war that Russia has led, as well as the violation of international laws and the economic consequences that this situation is causing,” he asserted in his initial comment.

The Indonesian minister stressed that the participants maintain inflation, the food crisis and the rise in energy prices as their main concerns.

cooperation continues

The official explained that the reaction of the ministers of the United States, United Kingdom, France, Canada and the European Union, to leave the room where the G-20 was meeting when the Russian finance minister, Antón Siluanov was preparing to participate , “did not divert participants from the priorities on the agenda.

“The protest was held without causing a disruption in our discussion and we were not surprised (…) The meeting of the countries, including Ukraine, allowed us to express the feelings of all members regarding the risk that the war in Ukraine represents” .

“All members continue to see the G-20 as a premium forum for international cooperation and collaboration to solve challenges (…) I am certain that these events have not eroded the cooperation or the role of the G-20.”

They leave Russia talking to itself

At noon several G-20 finance ministers, such as Canada’s Chrystia Freeland, announced on their Twitter accounts that they had left the G-20 session that was being held at the IMF offices while the Russian finance minister , Anton Siluanov, had a turn to speak at the forum.

“Today, Canada and several of our democratic partners walked out of the G20 session when Russia tried to intervene. This week’s meetings are about supporting the global economy. And Russia’s invasion of Ukraine is a serious threat to the world economy,” he asserted.
