Confusion Over COVID Test At Border Leaves Canadian Family Trapped In Michigan

Windsor, Ontario –

The Wright family of Sarnia, Ontario. is packing.

They just don’t know when they’ll be able to leave their Michigan hotel.

“The Canadian border at the Bluewater Bridge did not allow us to enter Canada yesterday,” Amanda Wright told CTV News.

Wright said they reached the border, with the ArriveCan application completed, four negative PCR tests and complete vaccination test.

“They would not accept the negative PCR test from Mexico for all of us because apparently we were supposed to have it from the United States,” he said.

Wright said the family didn’t get a chance to go home and self-quarantine.

“It was to pay a $ 10,000 fine or go back to the United States, that was the only option they gave us,” he said.

So they went looking for a rapid PCR test, but couldn’t find one.

“They told me there was a shortage in the United States and there weren’t any, and we had to have another PCR test that will take 24 to 48 hours to process,” Wright said.

Fueling his frustration are his friends, who went on vacation there and were allowed to cross over and go home, with no problem.

“An hour before us, at the bridge, the same PCR test from Mexico with him and his son, they pass and they let them into Canada,” Wright said.

The situation worsened, according to travel expert Martin Firestone, when the Canadian government characterized travel as risky and unstable.

Firestone said there is enormous confusion and many people are canceling trips because they don’t know if they will have to isolate themselves or if they will be able to return to work or school when they return home.
