“Vaccination, at TFI, is not at all an issue”, affirmed Alain Bédard during a conference call aiming to discuss the financial results of the company in the fourth quarter, according to comments relayed by the Financial Post.

The head of the Montreal-based company said the majority of its truckers are vaccinated and the few who are not are simply assigned to trips within the country.

The biggest challenge for the Quebec company at the start of the year was rather the many employees who had to isolate themselves in January because of the Omicron variant. However, the Montreal-based company’s finances do not appear to have been affected, with January shaping up to be the best January “ever for the company”, according to Bédard.

“During the fourth quarter, our operating profit increased by 84%,” Mr. Bédard said. “By focusing throughout the pandemic on our longstanding operating principles that emphasize efficiency, strong cash flow and strategic capital allocation, we entered the new year stronger. than ever.”

Market conditions allowed TFI to increase its net profit by 67% to US$144.1 million. Prior to the earnings release, analysts on average were expecting earnings per share of US$1.17 and revenue of US$2 billion.

Some 30,000 trucks cross the Canada-U.S. border every day, carrying nearly US$850 million worth of goods, according to 2020 figures from the U.S. Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS).
