Claudia Sheinbaum rules out alarm in CDMX for Omicron variant of Covid-19

The head of Government of Mexico City, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, ruled out that the capital has started the year in a situation of health alarm due to the advance of the new Omicron variant of Covid-19, since hospitalizations have not increased.

“There is no alarm, let’s say, in the city regarding the increase in cases, since it is not represented in terms of hospitalizations,” said Sheinbaum after the delivery of works for the Secondary School Number 11, Adriana García Corral, in the Center Historical.

“We will be reporting, as we have always reported, we are checking every day with the health cabinet of both the city and national governments; So far, there has been no increase in hospitalizations, we will continue to see it every day to give you some information, “he added.

While noting that all economic activities will continue to operate and that they will continue to return to classes, the head of Government reported that for next week they will install more kiosks for Covid-19 tests.

Sheinbaum Pardo assured that they will also continue with the same measures of the National Vaccination Program.

“At the moment, our main strategy is to keep vaccinating; then, the next dose of vaccination comes and that they are attentive to see when it corresponds to them ”, he said.

Budget increase

Sheinbaum Pardo announced that for this year the budget for the program will be increased by 50% The School is Ours, Best School.

“There is going to be an increase this year of 50%, so we are going to increase more than 100 million pesos, in such a way that as of next week the assemblies will begin in all the schools to elect their execution committee , its vigilance committee and they can decide between all the parents and mothers together with the directors and teachers of the school, in what is going to be used this resource ”, announced the official.



At the same time, he announced that for the next school year 2022-2023 the budget for the Wellbeing program for girls and boys-My Scholarship to start will increase, as well as the number of kitchens that are part of the Hot School Food program and thus reach close than 1,000 schools.

For his part, the secretary of Works and Services of the city, Jesús Antonio Esteva Medina, explained that in three years 1,773 million pesos have been invested to improve 2,017 educational establishments; Of these resources, 1,099 million correspond to studies and projects and 640 million were destined to renovations, as well as to seven new constructions.

“It is part of the pronouncement, of the government’s vision that is reflected in works, in concrete actions and is achieved thanks to constant coordination with the Educational Authority,” said Sheinbaum.
