Cirque du Soleil kicks off its first post-pandemic European tour in the cultural district of L’Hospitalet

  • The company programs ‘Luzia’, a dream trip inspired by Mexican culture

The Cirque du Soleil has chosen the cultural district of L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelonès) to return to pitch your tent for the first time in Europe after the arrival of the covid-19 pandemic. The company is currently working in Mexico with the show ‘Joya‘and in March 2022 he disembarked in Catalonia, precisely, with a show inspired by Mexican culture.

Lucia‘is a dream trip in the heart of an imaginary Mexico that will land in L’Hospitalet on March 17 and then go on tour, in summer, to Alicante and Madrid, in autumn. “This is the moment we all waited for. We return to a city where we have always felt at home. It is a particularly emotional moment, as we anxiously waited to return to the stage,” says the president and director of Cirque du Soleil, Daniel Lamarre.

The return of Cirque du Soleil will arrive two years after the last performance before the outbreak of covid-19. It was in Seville, on March 8, 2020 and the company takes advantage of the resumption to applaud the resilience of workers and artists during all that waiting time. “The intermission is over!” Lamarre now exclaims.

More than 50 artists

With ‘Luzia’, Cirque du Soleil will fulfill 24 years of tours in Catalonia, with a dozen different shows. The company assures that the show is “a true feast for the senses, surreal and brilliant” and in which about 50 artists participate “with impressive acrobatics and great visual surprises.”
