For the past three years, Marie spent her vacations away from her husband. The plan was always for them, along with their three children, to move from Cameroon to Canada and start a new life, but it didn’t happen all at once.

Her husband arrived three years ago. Little by little he settled down and found a stable job. In May, Marie and her children were finally able to join him.

“The separation was not easy,” said Marie. “But we are together again, and we are both very happy.”

As for the children, they are delighted that the family is whole again. Marie said her two oldest, ages six and four, enjoy going to school in their new home, while the youngest attends daycare.

Marie has not rested on her laurels since she arrived. He started CEGEP in the fall and has just finished his first full-time semester.

“I am working to become an accountant,” she said. “The plan is to keep studying, go to college, and eventually become a chartered professional accountant.”
