He eventually got an appointment with a doctor and they discovered that he had what the doctor considered life-threatening blood clots. The doctor said he would need to undergo vascular surgery in September.

The surgery was a success and the initial prognosis is that Beatrice will not need a second operation. Although he cannot walk yet, there is hope that he will be able to do so in the future. A nurse comes in twice a week to clean and replace her bandages.

However, blood clots weren’t Beatrice’s only problem. He said he was late filing taxes and owes a balance. As a pensioner on a fixed income, you are not in a position to pay at this time. He said this added concern has made what was already a difficult year that much more painful.

Beatrice’s health is slowly improving, and with it comes the promise of being able to go out again, walk around her Ville-Émard neighborhood, and get back to a social life.

“I’m looking forward to opening the door and going for a walk again,” he said.
