Chile begins vaccination of children between 3 and 5 years old against Covid-19

Minors between the ages of three and five began this Monday to receive vaccination against coronavirus in Chile at the same time that the country advances in the inoculation in adults of the third dose or booster dose.

“We are starting the vaccination campaign for children between 3 and 5 years old, with a vaccine that is safe and effective, and that will protect more than 700,000 children,” said the President of Chile. Sebastian Piñera.

The president attended a massive vaccination in Santiago located in the National Stadium, where the vaccination of minors of this new age group began. Until now, minors from the age of six have been vaccinated in Chile.

“This vaccine, in addition to protecting children, also protects their parents, their mothers, their families,” Piñera said in statements to the press, where it was specified that the Chinese double-dose Sinopharm vaccine will be administered to these minors. .

Chile is among the countries in the world with the highest vaccination rate and already exceeded 91% of the adult population immunized with double doses; 13.8 million of the 15 million adults with the possibility of being vaccinated among the 19 million inhabitants.

It is also immersed in the vaccination process with the third dose or booster dose that has already been administered to 8.9 million people, while the pandemic is stabilized at about 2,000 new cases a day and about 20 deaths.

Chile accumulates 1.7 million infections and more than 38,000 deaths from Covid-19 since last March 3, 2020 the first case was registered. Last Saturday registered the first case of the new variant Ómicron, highly contagious according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
