A 10-year old girl has succumbed to her injuries after being struck by a vehicle in the west end of Kingston. The girl, who was a student at Mother Teresa Catholic Elementary School, was crossing Lancaster Drive following a school day on January 31st, when she was struck by a black Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck that was traveling westbound.

“Having sustained life-threatening injuries the child was transported to hospital via Frontenac Paramedic Services. Collision reconstructionists from the Traffic Safety Unit processed the scene with assistance from the Forensic Identification Unit, while detectives interviewed witnesses and continue to investigate,” wrote Kingston Police in a news release.

Police report that the driver has been cooperative with investigators, immediately stopping and staying on the scene. Their vehicle was seized and towed pending further examinations. Police say that no charges have been laid at this time and fault has not yet been established.

“At the family’s request the child’s name will not be released and they are asking for their privacy to be respected during this extremely difficult time,” wrote Kingston Police on Tuesday.

On the morning of February 1st, the ALCDSB released a statement expressing condolences and providing support resources for students.

“ALCDSB is deeply saddened by the death of a student at Mother Teresa Catholic School. This news is heartbreaking & a tremendous loss in our community. Please reach out if you need to talk or need support in any way during this difficult time,” wrote the ALCDSB.
