A five-year-old man died after a house fire in the West End sent nine people to hospital.

Winnipeg police said Friday the other eight people in the home – four adults and four children – were upgraded to a stable condition.

The surviving children range in age from less than a year old to their early teens.

The fatal fire, in Simcoe Street, took place early Thursday morning and police said although the investigation is continuing, the cause of the fire is not suspected.
