Checo Pérez reaches his mark in Red Bull

Seven years have passed since Checo Pérez got his first podium at the Bahrain Grand Prix and now, in October 2021, after the Austin Grand Prix, he can talk about the brands he holds.

He has 14 podiums in his career, four with Red Bull this season and the second in a row, since last October 10 he also finished third in Turkey.

With the victory at the US headquarters, Checo consolidates the best season of his career in Formula 1, surpassing what he did in 2012 with the Sauber team, when he reached three podiums.

In Austin, Max Verstappen and Checo Pérez managed to climb the podium together, with the victory for the Dutchman, the eighth of the year. The Mexican faced difficulties such as diarrhea prior to the race and failures in his hydration system during the competition. Despite this, he highlighted how important it was to be in third place, that is, 40 seconds behind Max and being better than his closest competitor, Charles Leclerc, from Ferrari.

“It was very exhausting. From the return one had no water. In the middle of my second stint he got really hard. I lost my strength in the end. Thank you very much for so much support to all the fans. I was really losing strength and it was very difficult. Especially the last 30, 40 laps were extremely tough, ”said the man from Guadalajara.

Verstappen thus obtained the advantage of the leadership of the Drivers’ World Championship, reaching 287.5 points, while Pérez accumulated 150 and climbed to fourth place, displacing Lando Norris (McLaren).

“Checo is on fire this weekend. From the first session he has been very happy with the car and I thought he was going to get his first pole position, ”Red Bull boss Christian Horner said in an interview on Sky Sports.

Regarding the next stop at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico, Checo said that he is going with good momentum after what was achieved in Texas: “Today it was a pity that I couldn’t keep up with Max and Lewis. I was physically limited, but I am looking forward to the Mexican GP, which should be another good track for us ”.
