The mayor was traveling in his truck after holding a meeting with state and federal officials, when he was intercepted by individuals who fired shots with the vehicle and received three bulletstwo in the chest and one in the neck.
The event occurred around 4:15 p.m. this Thursday, March 10, confirmed Father Gilberto Vergara, parish priest of Aguililla. Paramedics went to the scene only to verify that the mayor had died.
In the vicinity of a soccer field located in Aguililla, where the events took place, elements of the Mexican Army attended, which, it is worth mentioning, have reinforced their presence in the state derived from the high rates of violence that are recorded.
With the crime against the mayor of Aguililla, there are 15 mayors assassinated in Michoacán since 2000, according to Rubén Salazar, director of Etellekt. Likewise, 93 mayors and mayors have been assassinated throughout the country in 22 years.
Said figure, reported the organization, is 114% higher than that registered for the similar period of the six-year term of Felipe Calderon (7 victims) and 15% higher compared to similar months in the mandate of Enrique Pena Nieto (13 victims).
Just last month, elements of the Mexican Army took control of security in the town of Naranjo de Chila, in the state of Michoacán, birthplace of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes “El Mencho”leader of Jalisco New Generation Carteland of the municipalities that had been taken over by that cartel, including Aguililla.
