Celine Dion in Vogue | “Nothing is going to stop me”

Celine Dion makes a big return to the public sphere by making the cover of the French edition of the magazine Vogue of May. In an interview in the publication, the Quebec star talks about his career, his dreams and his illness.

Celine Dion says she is doing well and living one day at a time with stiff person syndrome. “Five days a week I do athletic, physical and vocal therapy. I work on my toes as much as my knees, my calves, my fingers, my singing, my voice… This is the condition with which I must learn to live now by stopping questioning myself. I started by saying to myself: why me? What happened ? What did I do ? Am I responsible? Life doesn’t give you answers. You simply have to live it! », She said in an interview with journalist Clovis Goux.

For Sylvia Jorif, editor-in-chief of the magazine, this return of Céline Dion in Vogue is a real surprise and a nice gift, because it was the singer’s team who contacted the magazine. “We were approached at the end of January, and there was the desire on the part of Céline Dion to be in the French edition of the Vogue and to only wear French designers. We were very honored and proud, we accepted without even thinking about it and we shook up our publications,” she explains in a telephone interview with The Press.

Celine Dion and the love of fashion

The photo shoot for the magazine took place in New York with Law Roach, the singer’s stylist. “She is a real fashion lover, we love her because she is very natural and sincere. He is an international star with such kindness and great enthusiasm. We let her do it in complete freedom with her stylist,” explains Sylvia Jorif. In the images, she wears different outfits signed by the French houses Alaïa, Saint Laurent, Balenciaga, Jacquemus and Schiaparelli.

Celine Dion also talks about her love for fashion in the magazine. It was only after the release of her first album in English that she was able to buy designer clothes. “And then, I was invited, and I will never forget this Karl Lagerfeld show… He looked at me and said: you remind me of La Callas. I then treated myself to a Lagerfeld jacket like you would treat yourself to a diamond,” she recalls.

At 55, she says she is proud to talk about her beauty. “But what is beauty? Beauty is you, it’s me, it’s the inside, it’s our dreams, it’s today. Beauty is what surrounds us, it is there. There are people who see it. There are those who watch it. Today, I am a woman who feels very strong to move forward. One day at a time,” she confides in the pages of Vogue.

A return to the stage?

Celine Dion’s dream today is to live in the present, one day at a time. She believes that the love of her family, her children, her fans and the support of the team around her helps her fight the disease. “Plus, I have this strength in me. I know nothing is going to stop me,” she says.

Will she return to the stage? She can’t answer it, she says. “Because for four years, I told myself that I would not go back, that I am ready, that I am not ready… Today, I cannot tell you: ‘Yes, in four months. » I don’t know… My body will tell me. On the other hand, I don’t want to just wait. It’s morally hard to live from day to day. It’s difficult, I’m working very hard and tomorrow will be even more difficult. Tomorrow is another day. But there is one thing that will never stop, and that is wanting. It’s the passion. This is the dream. It’s determination,” she explains.

Celine Dion has been rare since the announcement of her illness in the fall of 2022, but we have seen her a few times in recent months. She made a surprise appearance at the Grammy Awards ceremony on February 4, where she presented the album of the year award to Taylor Swift. She was also seen on March 21 in Boston where she attended the Bruins game at TD Garden. Before the match, in the locker room, the singer revealed to the players the starting lineup for the match.

Celine Dion is also the voice of the campaign The invincible courage of Team Canada, a collaboration with the Canadian Olympic Committee and Radio-Canada. She is the narrator of a short film where she recounts the courage of Canadian athletes, who will go to the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris 2024.

The singer’s many fans are impatiently awaiting the documentary I am: Celine Dion, directed by Irene Taylor, available on Prime Video from June 25 worldwide.
