Celebrating excellence in the Calgary area home building industry

The BILDCR awards mark top achievements in new home construction, renovation, community development, sales, marketing and service.

New home builders, community developers, renovators and others involved in the Calgary area real estate industry set aside an evening to celebrate the best in their business at the 2023 BILDCR Awards gala on April 20.

The annual awards, held at the Telus Convention Centre, mark the exceptional work of members of the Calgary Region Land Development and Construction Industry Association.

“The BILDCR Awards Gala consistently stands out as one of the most important events for our association, and this year it certainly lived up to that reputation. While there are recognized award winners and finalists at this event, its true purpose is to celebrate the notable successes and achievements of all BILDCR members. Their tireless efforts to provide housing options across the spectrum deserve recognition. Each year, our members raise the quality of their products and services, as evidenced by the impressive submissions we received for this year’s awards,” says Brian Hahn, CEO of BILD-Calgary Region.

Jayman Built, a multi-award winner with seven awards, earned the coveted Grand Award for Builder of the Year, High Volume Single Family, one of six grand awards for outstanding performance in its area.

Logel Homes also excelled in its area, earning the Grand Prize for Builder of the Year, High Volume Multifamily for the fourth consecutive year. He also has four awards under his belt, including two awards for Best New Multifamily Design (651 square feet at 900 square feet and 901 square feet at 1,200 square feet) for The Nicholl 2 and The Cohen. 3ES, respectively. They also took the stage for Sales Team of the Year-Multifamily for their Seton West project and Best Brochure for their Sage Walk Condos & Towns Digital Brochure.

Also topping the charts and earning big awards were Dream Ridge Homes, top scorer and Small Volume Single-Family Builder of the Year award winner, and Renova Homes and Renovations, which won Small Volume Multifamily Builder of the Year. Crafted Edge Homes took the stage as Renovator of the Year, while Marsh Canada took the title of Partner of the Year.

“The competition for each of these awards was tighter than ever,” says Hahn, referring to the Grand Prix. “This speaks volumes about the remarkable ability of all of our members to deliver exceptional products.”

The six Grand Prix were awarded to the best winners, determined by a tally of results established by the BILD-CR Awards committee.

This year’s entries reached 700, a record number for the awards, and 257 of them earned nominations as finalists in 11 categories. More than 100 judges narrowed that number down to 63 final winners, including all six Grand Prize winners.

Jayman Built, a multiple-time Builder of the Year honoree, also received awards in categories spanning a comprehensive cross-section of competencies, from sales and marketing to design/construction and community design. Surpassing its outstanding number of finalist nominations (18 to be exact), it took the stage as the winner of Best Multifamily Community (Streams of Mahogany) and Best Multifamily Apartment Style in two categories ($251,000-$350,999 and $451,000). and more). It also won awards for Best Print Marketing, Best Digital Marketing Campaign and Best Information and Sales Center.

In addition to the Small Volume Multifamily Builder of the Year Grand Award, Renova Homes and Renovations earned eight finalist nominations for both its multifamily designs and renovation portfolio, while also earning one winner in the Best New Construction categories. Multifamily Design: 1,201 square feet to 1,400 square feet for River Pointe Villas in the Montgomery community and Best Exterior Renovation/Outdoor Living Space for its Altadore renovation.

Dream Ridge Homes wins the Grand Prize for Small Volume Single Family Builder of the Year for the first time. He also took the stage in the Best New Home category ($591,000 to $640,999) for his Modern Parisian 28 design.

Riding on the enthusiasm, it was a close race for the renovators. Crafted Edge Homes, this year’s Renovator of the Year, held its own and triumphed against last year’s winner, Ultimate Renovations. It earned eight finalist nominations and three wins: Best Home Renovation (No Addition) and two Best Kitchen Renovations: $71,000 to $130,999 and $131,000 or More.

Ultimate Renovation also did well, taking top awards in three renovation categories: Best Basement Renovation, Best Bathroom/Ensuite Renovation, and Best Kitchen Renovation, up to $70,999.

There weren’t many surprises when it came to the community development awards. For the seventh time, the Mahogany lake community in southeast Calgary, developed by Hopewell Residential, took the Community of the Year-City of Calgary crown. Hopewell Residential also received the Show Home Parade of the Year award for Mahogany Estates.

Similarly, the Harmony lake and golf community in Springbank, jointly developed by Bordeaux Developments and Qualico Communities, enjoyed continued accolades and won Calgary Region Community of the Year also for the seventh time.

Competing against a number of deserving new developments, Rangeview by Genstar, a project of Genstar Development Co., was celebrated as New Community of the Year. The community, located in southeast Calgary, offers mountain views, an extensive trail system, an innovative urban plan, a variety of housing styles and timeless architecture.

Celebrating enterprise, innovation and creativity, the Industry Achievement Award for Best Innovation went to Lux Windows and Doors for its CLiC Privacy Glass, which uses liquid crystal technology to transform clear glass into “dark” glass or privacy at the touch of a button. At the gala, Lux also won two advertising and marketing awards.

With a diverse membership that includes developers, builders, renovators, tradesmen, consultants, manufacturers, service professionals and suppliers, BILD-Calgary Region is the voice of the residential construction industry in and around Calgary, including Airdrie, Balzac, Cochrane , Chestermere, High River, Strathmore and Rocky View, Foothills and Wheatland counties. Its mandate is to create the most liveable communities in the world.
