Motorcyclist killed in Hwy. 427 crash may have been racing: OPP

A motorcyclist killed in a crash on a highway in north Etobicoke Friday night may have been racing another vehicle.Ontario Provincial Police say they are looking for a white Mercedes Benz that fled the scene after the deadly multi-vehicle crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. in the northbound lanes of Hwy. 427 just south of Hwy. 401.Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the Mercedes likely sustained some damage.The crash involved three vehicles and the motorcycle. The two vehicles that remained at the scene were damaged but their occupants were unhurt.The motorcyclist, described only as an adult male, was pronounced dead following the collision.Police were urging any witnesses, or motorists with dashcam footage that could help investigators, to come forward. ...

Safety blitz aims to reduce collisions on Ontario roads

The OPP has released the commercial motor vehicle collision data for last year as it prepares to join North American road safety partners to support Operation Safe DriverThe data shows there were more CMV collisions and fatalities on OPP-patrolled roads in 2019 than there has been in 20 years.Police responded to 8,432 collisions involving transport trucks last year.Of those incidents, 90 were fatal. And those fatal crashes saw 96 people killed and 1,078 injured.In 2019, 1,249 of the crashes were linked to speed.OPP Sgt.
