Trade schools might be a better option than colleges. Here’s why.

In July, Jessica Galvan, a 25-year-old resident of Springfield, Ill., started a cosmetology program at Midwest Technical Institute, forgoing a chance to attend a four-year college to obtain a bachelor’s degree.
