WHY SEE

Regardless of what happens on Saturday in Las Vegas, the Canucks’ pulse is one we’re watching closely. The second night of a back-to-back is never easy, but at least the flight to Orange County from Sin City isn’t long. If the Canucks, with their depleted defense corps, pull off a win over Las Vegas on Saturday, we’ll be looking to see if they can dig deep for an unexpected second straight win. If they lose Saturday, people will see the wolves circling closer and closer, wondering if there’s any way the Canucks can really fix things.

THREE THINGS ABOUT THE OPPOSITION

That doorman. Tuesday’s overtime win for the Ducks over the Canucks was the 11th win against Vancouver for goalie John Gibson in 14 career starts. He made 41 saves in the night and was confident with each one.

Young and old. The Ducks followed up Tuesday’s victory with a resounding 7-4 victory over the Seattle Kraken on Thursday. And leading the way were his top two scorers of the year: Troy Terry had a pair of goals and Ryan Getzlaf had three assists. Terry, 24, has arrived as the new young force in the Ducks’ lineup, while their veteran captain remains a vibrant and viable connection to their glorious past.

• Rested . The Canucks will play their third game in four nights. The ducks will rest well, and their victory over the Kraken will be their last time on the ice.
