New Vancouver Canucks President Jim Rutherford has wasted no time shaking up his front office.

On Friday morning, the day after he took over at the top of the Canucks’ hockey operations department, Rutherford fired assistant general manager Chris Gear and senior director of hockey operations and analysis Jonathan Wall.

The duo were responsible for the Canucks’ cap maneuvers, data analysis, contract work and more under former general manager Jim Benning.

Both had worked for the Canucks for many years, serving under a number of different hockey executives.

But their most recent positions had them near the pinnacle of decision-making, and clearly Rutherford is looking to create a clean list of decision-makers around him.
