Canadiens’ Tyler Toffoli is out for eight weeks after hand surgery

The Canadiens announced Saturday that forward Tyler Toffoli underwent hand surgery earlier this week and his recovery period is expected to take eight weeks.

The surgery was performed at Montreal General Hospital by Dr. Edward Harvey.

Toffoli went 5-12-17 in 25 games this season to rank second in team scoring behind Nick Suzuki (6-12-18).

The Canadiens also announced Saturday that forward Jake Evans was injured during the first period of Thursday’s 2-0 loss to the Chicago Blackhawks at the Bell Center and will be reevaluated daily.

The Canadiens, who are 6-19-3 and rank 31st overall in the NHL ahead of the Arizona Coyotes (5-19-2), will play the Blues on Saturday. night in St. Louis (7 pm, SNE, CITY, TVA Deportes, TSN 690 Radio, 98.5 FM).

Toffoli and Evans join a long list of injured Canadian players that includes Carey Price (knee), Shea Weber (foot), Joel Edmundson (back), Paul Byron (hip), Josh Anderson (upper body), Joel Armia (undisclosed), Christian Dvorak (lower body), Brendan Gallagher (COVID), and Sami Niku (COVID).
