Canadians mention Ryan Poehling and Mattias Norlinder de Laval

The Canadiens have called up forward Ryan Poehling and defender Mattias Norlinder from the AHL Laval Rocket.

The moves were announced Wednesday night after the Rocket beat the Belleville Senators 3-0 at Place Bell in Laval. Poehling, Alexandre Fortin and Gabriel Bourque scored for Laval, while Cayden Primeau made 32 saves for his second shutout of the season as the Rocket improved their record to 5-5-1. Primeau is 4-3-0 with an average of 2.18 goals against and a .921 save percentage.

Poehling, the Canadiens’ first-round pick (25th overall) in the 2017 NHL Draft, is 3-3-6 in seven games with the Rocket this season. He has not played for the Canadiens since the 2019-20 season when he was 1-1-2 totals in 27 games.

Cole Caufield received an assist for Laval Wednesday night and now has two assists, but no goals, in three games with the Rocket since he was sent by the Canadiens. Caufield was scoreless and one assist in 10 games for the Canadiens before being sent off. Including the last five playoff games last season with the Canadiens, Caufield has played 18 games without scoring a goal.

Norlinder played his third game for the Rocket Wednesday night since the Canadiens sent him on a conditioning assignment. Norlinder failed to collect a point during his conditioning period. The Canadiens selected him in the third round (64 overall) of the 2019 draft and he has yet to play a game in the NHL. If Norlinder does not stay with the Canadiens, he must return to Frolunda HC in the Swedish Hockey League.
