Canadian Blood Services Celebrates Lethbridge Anniversary: ’A Really Great Year’ – Lethbridge | The Canadian News

A year ago, on Wednesday, the Plasma Donor Center in Lethbridge opened its doors. Since then, more than 3,000 donors have given around 11,000 times, for a total of 8,000 liters of plasma.

Brenna Scott, business development manager for the location, said plasma education has grown significantly in that time.

“The awareness piece was so key for us,” he said. “We knew that many of the community members had not even heard of plasma.”

Despite opening during a pandemic, the center has received growing support. When it first opened, Scott said they saw two donors an hour.

“We are only nine donors an hour at the moment, but we hope to reach about 11 or 12 donors in the future,” he said.

“I think going forward we will continue to see a really strong response from the community.”

The need for plasma in Canada is approximately four times greater than what is currently collected. Scott said there are still about 300 open appointments available in Lethbridge between now and Jan.4.

“If you have some extra time, come with your family and friends and help save a life.”

You can find more information on how to donate in the Canadian Blood Services website.
